Senior Programs
The Wayne Senior Services Office is now located at the Wayne Community Center. Please drop in and check out the new lounge and offices. Come and tour the new Senior Lounge!
All of the following senior programs, except where noted, are at the Wayne Activity and Banquet Center located at 35000 Sims Avenue, Wayne, MI 48184. Please register for all programs at the new Senior Services Office located at the Wayne Community Center at 4635 Howe Rd. Wayne, MI 48184, 734-721-7400.
*Programs are offered to all those 50 years and older.
*Sometimes Travelers (travel group) is for anyone 30 years and older.
The following senior activities are available through the City of Wayne:
Spanish for Seniors
Spanish for Seniors - offered on Wednesdays. Call 734-721-7400 for further information.
The cost is $75.00 and includes class, book and CD.
Line Dancing Classes
Join us on Fridays from 1:00pm-2:30pm for line dancing classes. The cost is $1.00 per 1/2 hour. The class time is divided into two levels: Slow and Easy to Learn dances from 1:00pm-1:30pm and Progressive dances from 1:30pm-2:30pm! This is a fun way to exercise to great music!! All classes are held at the Wayne Activity and Banquet Center.
Sit & Be Fit
Sit & Be Fit (now located at the Wayne Community Center)* Mondays from 10:30-11:15am. Monthly is $3.50/class or drop in for $5.00.
Tai Chi
New 10-week session. Non-impact exercise for balance. $55.00. Tuesdays 9:00-10:00am for beginners, 10:00-11:00am for intermediate and 11:00am-Noon for advanced. If you’re not sure you’ll like it, come and check it out.
Computer Classes
$30.00 for 5 weeks. Call 734-721-7400 for class times and dates.
City of Wayne Commission on Aging
City of Wayne Commission on Aging meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 10:00am at the Wayne Community Center. Call 734-721-7400 for meeting locations. Visitors are always welcome.
Free Legal Aid
Local attorney, Dick Clark, will offer legal consultation to our senior residents on the second Friday every other month. Call for dates and reservations.
Free Blood Pressure
This program is offered every 3rd Thursday between 10:30am-11:30am by our local firefighters.
Congregate Meals/Meals on Wheels
A luncheon meal is offered every weekday at the Wayne Towers for a $1.75 donation. Please call the Wayne County Office on Aging at least 24 hours in advance for reservations at 734-727-7357. Seniors unable to pay will NOT be turned away.
Telecare Service
A great service offered free to our senior residents. Each weekday you will receive a preplanned friendly/safety call. The added benefit is a sense of security knowing that someone will call to be sure you are okay. Call 734-721-7400 for details.
Social/Recreational Activities
Golden Hour Club
Offers social activities weekly. There is always something going on and new faces are always welcome. Come and visit us any Thursday at 11:00am and enjoy a pot luck lunch and meet some friends.
Bingo
Every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 1:00pm. Open to the public.
Sometimes Travelers (age 30 years and up)
Enjoy group travel. Day and extended trips offered.Call for more details. Fliers available. Sometimes Travelers (travel group) is for anyone 30 years and older.
Euchre
Calling all Euchre Players!!! On Tuesdays from 1:45pm-3:00pm, we are looking for players to join our card group. Please call 734-721-7400 for more information. Cards are played at the Wayne Activity and Banquet Center.
